About

Welcome! My name is Francis. I am a final-year medical student at Stellenbosch University. When I manage to escape the hospital and the library, I enjoy playing and watching sport, reading books, listening to music, and most social engagements — especially those that involve discussing or participating in the above.

With the small matter of final exams still ahead, barring some freak accident or mental breakdown, I should graduate in December and start work as a junior doctor somewhere in South Africa on the 1st of January 2026.

I began this blog mainly as a fun way to keep friends up to date with what I’m doing (should they wish to know). I also think there is some value in documenting one’s thoughts and experiences, even if it is only for the mild amusement or nostalgic recollection of one’s future self.

I aim to publish a weekly stream of consciousness detailing the highlights and lowlights of work, any noteworthy activities, things I’ve been reading or thinking about, and whatever else happens to cross my mind...

“A diarist, after all, is free to follow his thought wherever it leads him. The unity of a diary’s content is in its connection with the life and interests of the diarist.”

If you have found your way here, it probably means that you are a dear friend; or you clicked the link in my Instagram bio. Either way, I am glad you’re here. Thanks for reading.

Sincerely,

Francis
